Year 2 Curriculum
This term we are looking at stories by the author Julia Donaldson, especially the Gruffalo. We will be looking at the different characters in the Gruffalo, writing descriptions about them and comparing them. We will look at non-fiction writing and create fact files about different minibeasts and animals. We will retell the story using different creatures linking in our science learning and literacy skills.
This term we will revise mathematical vocabulary and methods that will help the children to solve a range of word problems. We will continue to develop the children’s problem solving skills which will help them when solving more complex questions. The children will continue to develop their knowledge of data handling by using graphs and tally charts to display results from science investigations.
Our topic this term is The Gruffalo and Mini beasts. We will start of this topic by comparing living and non-living things and understanding what living things need to be alive. We will become explorers and explore the nature garden to find living mini beasts and begin to investigate the different habitats that they live in. We will compare habitats and think about why different creatures and animals require different habitats. By the end of this topic we will be able to identify and group mini beasts and their habitats and will be beginning to investigate their role in some basic food chains.
