Year 1 Curriculum

Literacy

Read Write Inc groups will continue this half term as we prepare for our Phonics Screening Check during the week of 11th June 2018. The children have been working very hard at reading real words and alien words. Your continued support with this at home is greatly appreciated.

Numeracy

We are going to be very busy mathematicians this half term exploring measures. We are starting units of time. How many jumps can we do in a minute? How long does it take us to get to school? After that we will be moving on to weight, capacity and money. It would be great if you can start to give the children some hands on experience of handling small amounts of money when you go out to do your weekly shopping.

Creative Curriculum

We have really enjoyed our topic of Jack and the Beanstalk and Growing this term. This half term the children will be planting Sunflowers, recycling their tins from home to use as flower pots. We will also be completing a class book on everything we have learnt so far! Art week is coming soon and the children will be exploring the work of Kandinsky and creating their own concentric circles piece of Art. In P.E we will be preparing for Sports Day as well as playing some team games like football, rounders and cricket.

We are also planning to take the children to Sutton Park in small groups during this term to explore the different wildlife (more information to follow).
